There’s not much doubt after opening weekend that the McNair Eagles (3-3) are now the team to beat, after Edison (4-2) was upset by struggling Bear Creek (2-4). Stagg (3-3) beat Franklin (3-3) in its first league game

McNair QB Rafael threw for 342 yards and 5 TDs, while running for 89 yards and 2 additional TDs — good for 431 yards and 7 scores. Lara was one of Black Hat Football’s 3 Taco Bell Athletes of the Week in recognition of his performance.

Check out Lara and more on McNair’s tape from Friday. One of the impressive plays is the tackle on the opening fumble — check out the Chavez receiver coming all the way back to make the play. The teams combined for more than 1,200 yards offense, including McNair’s 395 rushing yards.

His favorite targets were Andrew Hem (6 catches, 155 yards, 2 TDs) and Isaiah Redic (4, 111, 1). McNair RB Craig Miller ran for 122 yards and 2 TDs, as the Eagles scored 11 touchdowns Friday night. McNair visits Edison Friday at 7:15 p.m.
