Gustine High remained on course for its anticipated Week 11 showdown with neighbor and rival Orestimba of Newman, as the Reds’ defense held Mariposa to less than 200 yards in a 28-10 Southern League win.

Check out Brandon Garbez’s 5-yard TD a few plays into the tape above – old-fashioned power football with the two fullbacks in front of Garbez, who is 10 yards back. And check out Daniel Rowlett, tumbles out of bounds inches short of a TD about 55 seconds in.

Gustine (5-1, 3-0) and Orestimba (6-0, 3-0) meet in the regular-season finale, Nov. 3 in Gustine. When the teams met in the finale two years ago, they were both 9-0.

Hector Esquivez (9 tackles) and Tyeler Flores (8 tackles) led the defensive effort and will lead Gustine into Friday’s game at Ripon Christian (4-2, 2-1). RC and Waterford (3-3, 2-1) are the other teams in the race for the league title and a playoff berth.
